 🌟 Pakistan’s Stock Market Boom

The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) has witnessed an extraordinary rally in recent months. On July 7, 2025, the KSE-100 index reached an all-time high of 133,370.14 points, marking an increase of 1,421 points (+1.08%) in a single day. Analysts attribute this to investors’ confidence in upcoming bank dividends, economic stabilisation, and positive signals from Pakistan–US trade talks.

In FY 2024–25, the PSX delivered a 60% return, and over the past two years, it has grown by over 200%, making it one of the best-performing stock markets globally. Sectors leading this rally include banking, oil & gas, and cement, driven by expectations of economic reforms and reduced political uncertainty. However, experts warn that while these rallies are impressive, any geopolitical tension or policy reversal could trigger market corrections.

🪙 Gold Price Trends

In contrast to the bullish stock market, gold prices showed volatility. As of July 8, the price of 24K gold fell by Rs2,500 per tola, trading around Rs353,000 per tola. This decline came after a steady rise in June, driven by global gold price surges.

International factors such as stronger US Treasury yields and a firmer dollar index pressured gold prices downward today. For Pakistani investors, gold remains a traditional safe-haven investment, especially in times of inflation or currency depreciation. Analysts suggest that gold’s medium-term trend will remain dependent on the US Federal Reserve’s interest rate policy, regional tensions, and the Pakistani rupee’s strength.

🏢 Technology Sector Shake-Up

Pakistan’s tech ecosystem faced a setback as Microsoft announced its operational exit after 25 years in the country. The tech giant will retain only a small liaison office with about five employees. This comes alongside news that Careem, the ride-hailing platform, will suspend operations in Pakistan by July 18. Careem cited economic downturn, competitive pressures, and funding constraints as key reasons.

Both exits have raised concerns about Pakistan’s investment climate for global tech companies, especially amid rising operational costs, inconsistent policies, and funding shortages affecting local startups. Stakeholders stress the need for improved infrastructure, tax reforms, and political stability to revive investor confidence.

💰 Crypto & Digital Assets Ambitions

In a bold strategic move, Pakistan is pitching itself as a Bitcoin mining hub, aiming to allocate 2,000 MW of power to mining operations. The government plans to establish a national Bitcoin reserve, with an official policy of “never selling” its holdings. This initiative is led by the Pakistan Crypto Council and endorsed by top government circles, aiming to attract global crypto investment and remittances.

Additionally, Pakistan is presenting itself as a rare earth minerals supplier to the US, with efforts to expand trade and geopolitical ties. These initiatives are part of a broader diplomatic strategy to gain economic benefits and strategic security assurances from Western allies.

✈️ PIA Privatization

Under IMF bailout conditions, Pakistan has begun its largest privatization drive in two decades by inviting bids for 100% equity sale of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). Leading local business groups and army-backed companies have shown interest. The government believes privatization will reduce fiscal burdens and modernize the airline, which has been incurring annual losses due to poor management and operational inefficiencies.
